Glen Spey – 12 Year Old Flora & Fauna (70cl, 43%)

Glen Spey 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from the Flora & Fauna series, bottled by the distillery at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is a light style, with ripe peach, pineapple and a little lemon. The whisky is chill-filtered and has colouring added. The label shows a goldcrest, a small bird that lives in the pines by the ruins of Rothes Castle, which overlook the distillery. The nose is restrained at first, with light greengage and white grape fruit. Water brings fresh, estery notes and green pea pods. The palate is warming and lightly sweet with some acidity, and the medium finish is spicy and dry, with chocolate and a little coconut.
