Glen Spey – 12 Year Old (70cl, 43%)

This is a 12 year old single malt from Glen Spey, in a 70cl bottle at 43% abv. The distillery began life as Millhaugh, set up as an extension of the Mill of Rothes. Its owner, James Stuart, had been a farmer before he turned to distilling, and for a time the buildings served both trades. In 1887 the distillery was sold to W & A Gilbey. Misfortune followed, including a roof that collapsed under heavy snow, but whisky kept being made, and after rebuilding it grew to four stills in 1969.
