A single cask Glenallachie from Speyside, distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2020 at 60.3% ABV after 14 years in a Pedro Ximenez puncheon, number 1450.
The 500 litre puncheon leaves a good sherry influence without becoming overwhelming. Glenallachie's single malt takes well to maturation in many kinds of cask.
The tasting notes describe Bakewell tart, orange chocolate and chai spices on the nose, crystallised ginger, dried apricot and summer berries on the palate, and chocolate-coated cherry and toffee in the finish.
