This is an 11 year old Glenburgie from the 2008 vintage, a Speyside single malt bottled at 46.5% ABV for the McCallum Auld Alliance Vintage series.
It has been finished in a peated cask, and the smoke from that cask shows from the first sniff. It lays a sharper edge over the light sweetness of the Speyside spirit.
On the nose the peat is clear. The palate balances smoke against honey, vanilla and caramelised fruit, with a touch of spice. The finish is medium in length and warming, the smoke fading slowly and leaving caramel sweetness behind.
