Glenfarclas – 105 (70cl, 60%)

Glenfarclas 105 is a Speyside single malt matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at a natural cask strength of 60%, without added water, in a 70cl bottle. It carries no age statement and uses whiskies of roughly eight to nine years. It is not chill-filtered and has no added colour. The number 105 refers to the same strength on the old British proof scale. The bottling began in 1968, when George S. Grant chose a cask at 105 British Proof for Christmas gifts. Tasting notes describe oak, apple, pear and dark toffee on the nose. The palate is dry and powerful, with spice, oak and sherried fruit, and the finish is soft for the strength, warming and spicy.
