This is an eleven-year-old Glenfarclas from Speyside, a distillery bottling made for international travel retail. It comes in a 1-litre bottle with a blue tube, at 46%, non-chill-filtered and without added colour.
The whisky matured entirely in sherry casks, which gives it a fruity, spiced style with stewed fruit, toffee, dried fruit, nuts and a dry cask spice.
The nose offers fruit bread and roasted walnuts, with red grapes, stewed apple, creamy toffee and a touch of orange peel. With time, cinnamon pastry and light wood spice appear. The palate is soft, with malt first, then plum jam, candied orange and dark honey, leading to almond brittle and cocoa. The finish is long, velvety and warming, dry and spicy, with polished oak and fine chocolate.
