This is a 24 year old Glenfarclas, a Speyside single malt distilled on 3 December 1986 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 1.161 under the name Coconut Shy. It matured in a refill bourbon hogshead and was bottled at 49.2% ABV, yielding 255 bottles. The colour is bright gold.
The nose brings strawberry jam, raspberry compote, vanilla cream and icing sugar, with coconut shavings, gorse blossom and dried grasses. The palate is of coconut cream, vanilla fudge and sweet malt, with strawberry fondant, honey and a subtle tannic dryness. The finish is long and creamy, with sugared almonds, coconut, vanilla and fruit-and-nut chocolate.
