Glenfarclas – 8 Year Old (70cl, 40%)

Glenfarclas 8 Year Old is a Speyside single malt matured in Spanish sherry casks, including refill sherry casks that have already held whisky. It is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle, with its colour coming from the casks rather than added colouring. Glenfarclas stands at the foot of Ben Rinnes and has been owned by the Grant family since 1865. It distils twice in direct-fired stills. The nose brings apple pie with flaked almonds, cinnamon, hay, honey and raisins. The palate is nutty and buttery, with grassy notes and a hint of chocolate. The medium finish holds vanilla butter toffee, raisins and red apple slices, ending soft and spicy.
