Glenfarclas Family Cask 1961-2011 Release VII is a 50 year old Speyside single malt, distilled in 1961 and bottled on 25 May 2011 at 47%. It matured in a sherry hogshead, cask number 1325.
The nose is concentrated, with dry sherry, plum sauce, burnt caramel, dark chocolate, orange peel and a hint of soy sauce, along with pepper, clove, chilli and vanilla. The palate is full and rich, opening with sweet sherry and cherries, then moving through rustic farmyard notes to a floral, lightly perfumed character, with marked woody bitterness. The finish brings clove, rocket, dry sherry and oak.
