Glenfiddich 15 Year Old is a Speyside single malt matured in three kinds of cask: sherry, bourbon and new American oak.
After maturation the whisky is combined in a large Solera vat made of Oregon pine, an idea borrowed from Spanish sherry production. The flavours marry there, which keeps the character consistent from batch to batch.
The nose is baked apple, dates and prunes with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. On the palate come dried fig, marzipan and candied ginger. The finish is long, floral and woody, with spice lingering over a soft sweetness.
