Glenfiddich – 29 Year Old Grand Yozakura (70cl, 45.1%)

Grand Yozakura is a 29 year old limited edition in the Glenfiddich Grand Series, and the first Glenfiddich single malt finished in Awamori casks. Awamori is a traditional rice spirit from Okinawa. The whisky matured in American and European oak, then spent six months in casks that had held Awamori. It is bottled at 45.1% ABV. The name roughly means viewing cherry blossom at night. The finish adds herbal notes, extra spice and a silky texture. The nose has ripe, lively fruit and caramelised almonds, with strong oak, cinnamon and a herbal note. The palate brings toasted oak, creamy vanilla toffee, silky tannins, spice, lemon sorbet and crisp green apple. The finish is long, shaped by mature oak.
