Glenfiddich – 29 Year Old Grand Yozakura (70cl, 45.1%)

Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura is a 29 year old single malt from the Grand Series, bottled at 45.1% in a 70cl bottle. It matured in American and European oak, then spent six months in casks that previously held awamori, a rice spirit from Okinawa. Glenfiddich describes it as the first single malt Scotch with an ex-awamori finish. Yozakura refers to viewing Japanese cherry blossom at night. The nose shows lively ripe fruit and caramelised almonds, with layered oak, a touch of cinnamon and a distinct herbal note. On the palate, toasted oak and creamy vanilla toffee meet silky tannins, spice, sparkling lemon, crisp green apple and warming earthy tones. The finish is long, with oak lingering.
