Glengoyne – 1984/2021 36 Year Old The Russell Cask #1549 (70cl, 50.7%)

This is a 36-year-old Highland single malt from Glengoyne, distilled in 1984 and bottled in 2021 from a single refill sherry butt, cask #1549. It is bottled at 50.7% in natural colour, without chill-filtration, in a 70cl bottle. Three generations of the Russell family, Peter, Leonard and Tom, selected the cask, and it was the only one they agreed on. There are 402 numbered bottles, presented in a collector's box. The nose shows light strawberry, lime sherbet, soft mint, lemon meringue pie, stewed apples, coconut, sweet cinnamon and fine leather. The palate is silky and creamy with tropical fruit, dried banana chips, chocolate and cherry. The finish is long and gently sherried, with a spicy close.
