Glenlivet – 1938 Gordon & MacPhail (75cl, 40%)

This is a 1938 Glenlivet, a Speyside single malt bottled by Gordon & MacPhail at 40% in a 75cl bottle. It comes from the independent bottler's semi-official licensed bottlings, which carry the Smith's Glenlivet livery and later became known as the Distillery Labels range. It was made with pre-war production methods and matured in sherry casks. Old pre-war distillates of this kind are often described as showing desiccated coconut, rancio, tobacco, peat, wax and hessian, alongside a strong fruitiness.
