Glenlivet – 1939 Gordon & MacPhail

This is a Glenlivet distilled in 1939, a Speyside single malt bottled in the 1970s by the Elgin independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail in a small batch. Gordon & MacPhail's aged Speysiders from this period are described as noticeably smokier and peatier than their modern counterparts, with an equally intense, luscious fruit character. 1939 was the year distilling in Scotland began to slow because of wartime constraints, and Gordon & MacPhail were already laying down casks to mature in their warehouses.
