A single cask Glenlivet from Speyside, distilled in 1978 and bottled in 2018 at 40 years old by Gordon & MacPhail for its Private Collection series. It is bottled at 53.5% ABV in a 70cl bottle, without colouring or chill filtration.
The whisky matured in a refill sherry hogshead, which gave 319 bottles.
The nose is sweetly sherried, with roasted hazelnut, soft fudge, milk chocolate and rum-soaked raisins, lifted by fresh citrus peel and polish notes. The palate is smooth and spicy, with demerara sugar, chilli, cinnamon and clove, then thick-cut orange marmalade and a charred oak edge. The finish is long, spicy and well balanced.
