Glenlossie – 21 Year Old 2004 The Three Witches of Sueno's Stone Samhain Series (56.7%)

This is a 21-year-old Glenlossie from the Samhain Series, bottled at 56.7% ABV as 'The Three Witches of Sueno's Stone'. It matured in a refill hogshead and was limited to 208 bottles. Each release in the series draws on a local legend, and the label art is by Steven Shand, an Edinburgh-based artist and designer. This one refers to Sueno's Stone near Forres, the tallest surviving Pictish standing stone in Scotland, which is linked to tales of three witches. The nose is warming and comforting, with buttery pastry, soft vanilla and orchard fruit. Honey-roasted pears and sugared almonds on the palate give way to blackcurrant jam and juicy sultanas, then spice, vanilla and oak, with a lingering gingerbread note.
