Goldrun Rye is a small-batch California whiskey bottled at 45% ABV, made by Old World Spirits in Belmont. Founder Davorin Kuchan is a third-generation distiller from Croatia.
The mash is 100% white organic rye from North Dakota, fermented with a Champagne yeast strain over 7 to 10 days and double-distilled in a 110-gallon, hand-hammered Christian Carl copper alembic still. It is aged for a minimum of one year in new, charred American oak barrels from Minnesota.
The nose is described as fresh rye bread, warm cereal and yeast with honeysuckle. The palate is doughy bread and biscuits with honey and spice, and the finish is delicate, with cinnamon, vanilla and honey.
