This is a 35-year-old single malt from Glenury Royal, distilled in 1984 and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for its 125th anniversary series. It is the second whisky released in that series, in a 75cl bottle at 49.1% ABV.
The spirit was filled on 7 June 1984 and matured throughout in a first-fill sherry butt, cask number 2335, giving 397 bottles. Glenury, at Stonehaven, stopped distilling in 1985 and was later demolished, after a history of about 160 years.
The whisky is a rich amber. The nose offers stewed fruit, cocoa powder, cinnamon and toasted oak. The palate has sweet orange peel, cherry, burnt sugar and dried fig, leading to a medium, fruity finish with aniseed and sherry.
