Gryphon & Grain is a four-year-old single barrel straight rye from California, bottled at 48% ABV in a 75cl bottle. Copper Cane Spirits makes it from grain grown on estates in Northern California: Merced rye, Mapes Ranch yellow corn and malted two-row barley.
The whiskey is double-distilled and aged in a proprietary blend of new charred French and American oak. It is distilled, aged and bottled in California, and the name refers to Queen Califia's army of gryphons.
The nose has lemon frosting, scones, honey, marmalade and spring florals over subtle earthiness. The palate shows smoky oak, graham cracker, honey, artisanal bread and lemon-ginger tea. The finish is long and soothing, with lemon frosting, wintergreen and herbal tea.
