Hakata 16 Year Old Sherry Cask is a Japanese single malt aged for a minimum of 16 years in sherry casks at the Hikari Distillery in Fukuoka, which was founded in 1912. It is bottled at 42% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky is made from 100% barley with partial koji fermentation, and it is matured in traditional and open-air warehouses.
On the nose the sherry is muted, with brown butter, toasted cereal and sharp orange oil and peel. The palate is sweet, with sugary tea, fruit, chocolate and spice. The finish is thick with leathery, austere sherry.
