Hakata 18 Year Old Sherry Cask is a Japanese single malt from the Hikari Distillery in Fukuoka, bottled at 42% in a 70cl bottle. The distillery was founded in 1912 and uses partial koji fermentation.
The whisky is aged for a minimum of 18 years in sherry casks.
The nose is savoury, with mushroom, soy sauce, burnt rope, saddlebags and walnut shells. On the palate, pruny, overripe fruit gives way to malty dark chocolate, and the finish is a big, meaty note of old sherry.
