Heaven's Door Refuge is a straight rye whiskey made from a 100% rye mashbill at Heaven's Door Distillery in Pleasureville, Kentucky, which Bob Dylan co-founded. It is bottled at 46% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The rye is aged for six to eight years, then spends a further six months finishing in Amontillado sherry casks from Spain.
The nose offers dark fruit, oak and spicy warmth, with coriander and dried orange peel beneath. On the palate, spice gives way to dried fruit, honey, caramel, nutmeg and tobacco. The finish is long, with citrus, clove and a hint of wintergreen.
