Henriques & Henriques 10 Year Old Malmsey Madeira (19%)

This is a 10 Year Old Malmsey Madeira from Henriques & Henriques, made from Malvasia grapes grown on the volcanic slopes of the island. Fermentation is halted by adding grape spirit, which keeps part of the grapes' natural sugar. It is aged for at least ten years in wooden casks using the canteiro system, in naturally warm surroundings. The colour is deep amber. The nose shows dried figs and dates with molasses and chocolate. The palate has excellent structure and balance, and the finish is persistent, with candied fruit and hazelnut.
