Henriques & Henriques Doce Generoso 5 Year Old Tinta Negra Madeira (75cl, 19%)

This is a fortified Madeira from Henriques & Henriques of Câmara de Lobos, made entirely from Tinta Negra in the full, rich, sweet style known as Doce Generoso. It is bottled at 19% ABV. The wine is heated for 90 days in estufagem, then aged for a minimum of five years in balseiro, a large cask. Residual sugar is around 100 g/L, and the acidity keeps it poised rather than heavy. The flavours run to concentrated sultana raisin and caramelised citrus, with cane sugar, walnut and roasted almond. Holiday spice, candied lemon and bitter orange zest sit beneath. It suits serving lightly chilled after dinner.
