Henriques & Henriques Special Dry Tinta Negra 5 Year Old (75cl, 19%)

This is a dry Madeira from Henriques & Henriques in Câmara de Lobos, made entirely from Tinta Negra. Special Dry, or Seco Especial, is the house's driest style for this grape. The wine is heated for 90 days in estufagem, then aged for a minimum of five years in balseiro, a large cask. It is bottled at 19% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The nose is nutty and smoky. The palate is dry, energetic and expansive, with roasted almond, mandarin orange and dried honey. It is served chilled as an aperitif, and it can stand in for dry vermouth in a martini.
