This is a 10 year old Verdelho Madeira from Henriques & Henriques in Câmara de Lobos, made entirely from Verdelho in the medium-dry meio seco style.
The wine is aged in balseiro and pipas by the traditional canteiro method, in which casks rest slowly in warm lodge lofts. The ten-year statement refers to the youngest wine in the blend.
It opens with apricot kernel, mandarin orange and dried honeycomb, alongside Earl Grey tea, roasted nuts, island smoke and a salty sea-spray edge. The palate is medium-dry, with striking acidity.
