The Accelerator and the Brake is a 33 year old Scotch whisky from the Charles Gordon Collection of House of Hazelwood, bottled at 55.7% in a 70cl bottle. It pairs a robust, high-strength grain whisky with a carefully selected malt, and takes its idea from the Gordon brothers, Charles and Sandy, one the accelerator and the other the brake.
The nose is rich, with toasted nuts, dried orange peel, cigar humidor, warm engine oil and resinous oak. The palate opens with the grain, in molasses, black tea, roasted spice and pecan pie, before the malt brings dark fruit, oiled leather and herbal notes. The finish is expansive, with burnt caramel, bitter chocolate, linseed and a cool herbal edge.
