This is a 25 year old Islay single malt from Bowmore, distilled in 1997 and bottled at 47.1% ABV in an outturn of 299 bottles. It comes from a single ex-bourbon barrel that was then moved into a Pedro Ximenez sherry hogshead. It was chosen by Alistair as Infrequent Flyers bottling number 100.
The nose is sweet and phenolic, with peat smoke softened by time, alongside fruit, spice, violets and mineral notes. The palate is oily and full, with soft peat, herbal and medicinal notes, brown sugar, caramel and cinnamon, then chocolate and blueberries. The finish is soft and elegant.
