This is a cognac from Exshaw, distilled in the late 19th century and bottled in the 1930s. It was already over 40 years old when it went into bottle.
The house was founded in 1805 by John Exshaw, who bought young cognacs and matured them in France. That was unusual at the time, as English traders generally shipped their cognac in barrel to London to age. His son Thomas-Henri continued the business and exported to countries under British rule. Exshaw was bought by Otard in 1975 and is no longer produced.
