This is an older bottling of Johnnie Walker Black Label Extra Special, a Scotch blended whisky from the 1970s. Decades in the bottle have softened the smoke and brought the wood and fruit together.
The nose offers maple syrup, toffee and vanilla, with ripe apple, pear and raisins, a gentle peat smoke and dry herbs. The palate is smooth and full, with caramel, creamy sweets and baking spice, plus a light, well-integrated smoke. The finish is medium to long, with vanilla and toffee, a little old oak and a faint wisp of smoke.
