Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve is a blended Scotch whisky with no age statement, in a 75cl bottle at 40% ABV. Master Blender Jim Beveridge assembled it from about 15 single malt and grain whiskies from Speyside, the Highlands and the Lowlands.
Clynelish, from the Highland distillery near Brora, sits at its heart, with Cardhu and Blair Athol as supporting malts and Cameronbridge grain whisky as the base. The name recalls the discovery of gold in the Kildonan Hills in 1868.
The nose offers honey, vanilla, baked apple and tropical fruit, with a thread of smoke. The palate is creamy, with honey, toffee and caramel, then spiced oak. The finish is medium, with ginger, dried fruit and a little smoke.
