Johnnie Walker XR 21 Year Old is a blended Scotch whisky at 40% ABV, in a 75cl bottle. It is made from malt and grain whiskies, some of them from silent distilleries, and every component has been aged for at least 21 years.
The blend was inspired by one created in honour of Sir Alexander Walker II, grandson of the founder of Johnnie Walker. The bottle is a decanter-style glass shape that nods to that royal lineage.
The nose offers dried fruit, warm spice, cedarwood and honeycomb with a soft floral lift. The palate is velvety, with toffee, stewed pears, dark chocolate, cinnamon and smoke. The finish is long, with oak, dried orange peel and a little peat.
