This is the 15th edition of Kilchoman's 100% Islay series, a single malt matured for 9 years exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels. Kilchoman is a farm distillery that grows its own barley, floor malts it and kilns it over local Islay peat.
The nose opens with fruity sweetness, fresh minerality, salted butter and a distinct maltiness, with a gentle hint of peat smoke coming later. The palate is refreshing and sweet, moving towards citrus and lemon peel before a final burst of peat. The finish is lingering, with sweet and salty notes and a touch of tobacco.
