Kilchoman – Am Bùrach 2020 Edition (70cl, 46%)

A limited Islay single malt from Kilchoman, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle, with 10,550 bottles produced. Am Bùrach means 'the mess' in Scottish Gaelic, and the name comes from a mistake. In 2014 a distillery employee accidentally mixed casks of Machir Bay, Kilchoman's bourbon and sherry matured blend, with ex-port casks. Rather than discard the result, the distillery let it mature for nine years, six of them additional years in bourbon casks, then gave it six months in ex-ruby port casks. The peat typical of Islay sits alongside the rich fruit brought by the port casks.
