Kilchoman Casado is a 2022 edition Islay single malt, non-chill-filtered and with no added colour. It was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2022, at 46% in a 70cl bottle, and peated to 50 PPM. The outturn was 12,900 bottles.
Six years in 38 fresh bourbon barrels came first. The whisky was then married, which is what casado means in Portuguese, in two ex-wine casks from Portugal of 6,000 litres each.
The nose opens with campfire smoke, then peach, plum, cherry, marzipan and sea air. Pepper and spice arrive on the palate, dry and salty with peat, followed by apricot and lemon. The finish is long, with a spicy edge balanced by smoke and sweetness.
