Knappogue Castle is an Irish whiskey named after the castle, which was built in 1467. The name comes from the Gaelic for 'hill of the kiss'.
Its story begins with Mark Andrews, the castle's owner, who bought whiskey in 1951 and matured it in sherry casks. When he bottled it 36 years later, he gave it the castle's name.
Today his son selects a few casks each year. Each is chosen as a vintage from a single distillation, so flavour and aroma can differ from one bottling to the next. Following Irish practice, no peat fire was used to dry the malt.
