This is a single cask Islay single malt from Laphroaig, distilled in 2001 and matured for 20 years in a sherry butt. La Maison du Whisky selected and bottled it as number 11 in its Artist Collection, with artwork by the French painter Catherine Ludeau.
It is bottled at a natural cask strength of 58.3% ABV, and the cask gave 561 bottles. Maritime peat smoke sits alongside chocolate, orchard fruit and honey.
The nose brings bonfire smoke, toasted bread, dark cocoa and walnuts, with a hint of medicine. On the palate come earthy peat, toasted almonds, dark chocolate and crisp apple. The finish is long, with maritime smoke, salted nuts, soft oak and citrus.
