Lagavulin 12 Year Old Natural Cask Strength is an Islay single malt from the 2014 Diageo Special Releases, bottled at 54.4% (108.8 proof) in a 750ml bottle. The whisky was distilled in 2001 and 2002, bottled in 2014 and limited to 31,428 bottles. It is natural colour.
It was matured entirely in refill American oak casks, which lets the distillery's peat, salt and coastal character come through without a heavy wood overlay.
The nose offers salty citrus, white ash and iodine with a leafy green edge. The palate carries candied lemon, white pepper on seaweed, green bell pepper and coastal peat, and the finish is long and chilli-like with dry vanilla oak and vegetal peat tar.
