Lagavulin 8 Year is an Islay single malt from the Lagavulin Distillery, matured in refill American oak casks. It is bottled at 48% in a 750ml bottle, without chill filtration. The expression grew out of a 2016 anniversary edition and is now part of the core range.
The label carries Alfred Barnard's note from the 1880s, in which he called the 8 year old he tried at the distillery 'exceptionally fine'.
The nose combines tea-scented smoke, maritime aromas, milk chocolate, lemon and brine, with seaweed and smoked haddock. On the palate there is sweet, warming peat smoke, charred minty dark chocolate, baked potato skins and walnuts. The finish is long, clean and smoky.
