This is Lagavulin 12 Year Old, part of the Diageo Special Releases 2023 and named The Ink of Legends. It is an Islay single malt bottled at 56.4% vol in a 70cl bottle.
The distillery's smoky character is carried through a finish in Don Julio Añejo tequila casks.
The nose is recognisably Lagavulin, lightly sweet, with pepper, bonfire embers, stone fruit, white chocolate and pineapple. The palate is robust yet harmonious, with smoke, stewed plums, orange peel and oak spice. The finish brings salted popcorn and toffee.
