This is a 26 year old single malt from Lagavulin on Islay, bottled at 44.2% in a 70cl bottle as part of the 2021 Special Release series. It is a single vintage malt and the first 26 year old Lagavulin Special Release.
It was matured in first-fill Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso casks, which give it a rich sherried character.
The nose is wine-woody and slowly unfolding, with fresh vinous top notes, linseed oil, polished mahogany, dry seaweed, baked fig and butterscotch. Later it turns oily and smoky, with tarry rope and boat engine. A little water softens the intensity and leaves a note of clean linen.
