Lagavulin 26 Year Old Legends Untold is a 2021 Special Release single malt from Islay, bottled at 44.2% in a 70cl bottle. It is a single vintage malt and the first 26 year old in the Lagavulin Special Releases.
It was matured in first-fill Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso casks, and that style shows clearly in the whisky.
The nose is mellow and complex, with vinous top notes and linseed oil, then polished mahogany, dry edible seaweed, baked fig and butterscotch. Further in it turns more pungent, oily and smoky, with tarry rope and boat engine. A little water reduces the intensity, and a note of clean linen lasts longest.
