Lagavulin 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 48% in a 750ml bottle. It was first released in 2016 for the distillery's 200th anniversary, inspired by Alfred Barnard's 1886 visit, when he tasted an 8-year-old Lagavulin and called it exceptionally fine.
The whisky is made from heavily peated malt and matured in refill casks.
Bonfire smoke, iodine and sea spray lead the nose, with lemon zest and green apple. The palate is bright and oily, with peat smoke around citrus, vanilla and honey, then black pepper and brine. The finish is long, dry and smoky, with ash and salted lemon.
