Lagavulin 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky, in a 70cl bottle. It was released to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the distillery by John Johnston in 1816.
The eight-year-old age takes its inspiration from Alfred Barnard's visit to Lagavulin in the 1880s, when he tried an 'exceptionally fine' eight-year-old whisky there. It is big and smoky, with sweet spice that emerges with a drop of water.
The nose has salted popcorn, honey-roasted nuts, smoky tar and fresh cedar. The palate is bold peat smoke with coriander seed, barley sugar, cumin, smoked kipper and marzipan. The finish brings apple crumble, toasted almonds, ash and warming spices.
