This is the Distillers Edition of Lagavulin, an Islay single malt bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is matured a second time in ex-bodega Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, which adds a rich, raisin-like sweetness to the smoky character of the standard Lagavulin.
The colour is deep amber. The nose is peat and vanilla, with raisin sweetness holding the smoke in check and crisp roasted malt. The palate is sweet and full-bodied, with malt, smoke, salty seaweed, coffee, vanilla and a little fruit. The finish is very long, with fruit, peat and lingering oak.
