Lagrein Alto Adige DOC from K. Martini & Sohn is made from the native Lagrein grape. It has a very intense, almost impenetrable ruby colour, with aromas of ripe blackberries and raspberries, bitter chocolate and earthy spices such as black pepper. On the palate it is balanced, with acidity well matched by soft tannins. It is aged in oak barrels, which further soften the tannins and add tertiary aromas. It suits intensely savoury red meat, aged cheese and complex Alto Adige dishes, and is best served at about 16-18 degrees.
