Laphroaig 10 Year Old is an Islay single malt, matured for ten years in oak and bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. The distillery stands on Islay's south shore and was founded in 1815 by the Johnston brothers. It still malts barley on its own floors and cuts peat on the island.
The nose is strong peat smoke with spice, liquorice and sea salt, and a touch of sweetness alongside iodine, plasters and cold wood smoke. Seaweed leads the palate, with vanilla ice cream, medicinal notes and firm oak, then cardamom, black pepper and chilli. The finish is full, dry and long, with tar and iodine.
