Laphroaig 10 Years Cask Strength is an Islay single malt matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at natural cask strength. This is Batch 17, at 58.3% ABV in a 70cl bottle, and it comes in the distillery's new layout from November 2023.
Adding water opens up a rich peat smoke alongside some sweetness and strong maritime notes.
The nose is sweet, powerful and smoky, with candied apple slices, crème brûlée and sugary pastry. On the palate apple compote, vanilla cream and pears in syrup lead into sea salt, herbal smoke, fresh seaweed and a touch of cooling menthol. The finish is very long, with black pepper, old leather and sweet grassy smoke turning to tarry peat.
