Laphroaig 18 Year Old is an Islay single malt bottled at 48% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It marks the return of the 18 year old age statement after an absence of almost a decade.
The whisky was matured for 18 years exclusively in ex-bourbon American oak barrels. It is made from barley dried over peat smoke in the distillery's kilns, with water from the Kilbride Stream. Long ageing softens the smoke without removing the medicinal, maritime character.
The nose is smoky peat and sweet vanilla with toffee and gooseberry. The palate brings baked apple tart, cinnamon and ripe fruit over peat smoke. The finish is long, with fresh mint and woody smoke.
